Written on April 8th, 2009 | Category: Indonesia | 0 Comments | 5,031 views

In Bali, full moon is an important event—an occasion to be celebrated, a time to rejoice and making beautiful offerings to the gods. On the tenth full moon, hundreds of temples celebrate their seven-monthly temple anniversaries.

This month happens to be the tenth full moon (sasih kedasa) and Mertasari Temple, an old temple located by the beach in Mertasari Sanur, will hold its temple anniversary (odalan). There will be many Bali music and Bali dance performances over several days, including semara pagulingan court music by Mekar Bhuana Conservatory. Also, based in Sanur, Mekar Bhuana is going to entertain the gods as well as the local community with this rarely heard music. According to palm-leaf scriptures Aji Gurnita and Pra Kempa, a semara pagulingan orchestra is the most suited to accompanying high priests as they recite their mantra before worshippers pray at temple ceremonies. ANNOUNCMENT : WORLD SILENT DAY IN ACTION

Written on March 19th, 2009 | Category: Indonesia | 2 Comments | 2,980 views

Dear people of the Earth,

Many of you joined us in the journey of Silence on March 21, 2008. Your participation has kept the World Silent Day Campaign alive.

Now, Bali Collaboration for Climate Change takes you again on a journey of Silence. This is a campaign for all of us to reduce green house gas emision by participating in the WORLD SILENT DAY FOR THE EARTH.

WSD is a campaign that appeals to individuals to reduce activites that produce green house gases – gases that trigger global warming and climate change.

Remember the four easy steps:

  1. Saturday 21 March 2009
  2. Only four hours 10 am to 2 pm
  3. Switch off electronic appliances, reduce the use of motorized vehicles and activities that consume natural resources, plant trees, strengthen relations with family, work team and neighbours
  4. Share your silent experiences to mysilent@worldsilentday.org.

The four hour silences is a first step towards World Silent Day, inspired from Bali. March 21 is selected because of the northern equinox and the World Forestry Day, linked to World Water day on March 22, symbolizing life.

For more information, please visit www.worldsilentday.org. You can also download paperless calendar, WSD icons and posters.

You can also opt to do your own way of silence and adjust the dates and time. The most important thing is to join the Silence in any way you can.

Please share this campaign to friends, families, work team, and all people that you know. Your small step today can mean a lot for our children in the future.

O one of the practical implementations of Trihitakarana is the Nyepi or Silent Day conducted for 24 hours in Bali during the Saka New Year.

It is estimated that during Nyepi Day, the CO2 emission reduction in Bali is at least 20 thousands tons because motorcycles, cars and airplanes cease to operate. Read More »

Afghanistan, approximately the size of Texas, is bordered on the north by Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, on the extreme northeast by China, on the east and south by Pakistan, and by Iran on the west. The country is split east to west by the Hindu Kush mountain range, rising in the east to heights of 24,000 ft (7,315 m). With the exception of the southwest, most of the country is covered by high snow-capped mountains and is traversed by deep valleys.
